KING OF THE RIVER
When is a Biesemeyer not a Biesemeyer? Well, when you're Billy B's personal hot-rod, you're a Bezer - a boat built by Ray Brown from a mold purchased from Biesemeyer.
Billy Berkenheger, known far and wide by boat enthusiasts and hot rodders as "Billy B", is one of southern California's most respected boat painters. He is the owner of Krazy Kolors in Upland, California, (909-982-8555) and has wrapped a great many of the hot boats seen on the river and in magazines in his wild array of colors. One of the rigs gifted by his considerable talents is his own boat, a 1991 Biesemeyer.
The boat was originally intended to be used as a K boat on the racing circuit, but was chiefly campaigned in the APBA's Super Stock class by driver Gordon Jennings Jr. and Paul Fitzgerald in the early 1990's. Now the boat is the "King of the River," truly a speed machine to be reckoned with that has held the record for three years running at the Flat Bottom Regatta staged each year in Parker, Arizona.
The 505 cubic inch Chevy was built and is maintained by VanGordon Racing Engines and features a Crower crank, J&E pistons, Oliver connecting rods, Brodix heads, Mirch intake manifold and an Enderle bird catcher. Rounding out the setup is a Littlefield blower and Zoomie exhaust.
The boat has most recently been featured in the September 2005 issue of Hot Boat magazine.
